Have you tried the Santa Clarita Diet yet?

Have you tried the Santa Clarita Diet yet?

I’ve been binge watching something lately, and feel like I shouldn’t confess this weird addiction. I can’t even really pinpoint the reasons I’ve been watching NetFlix’s Santa Clarita Diet. Other than it’s a little funny. Oh, and Timothy Olyphant. But for clarities sake, let’s just call this show The Walking Dead Light.

The premise is straightforward. Sheila Hammond (Drew Barrymore) and her husband, Joel (Timothy O (oh, what a tall drink of water)), play Realtors©. Sheila suddenly becomes a member of the undead set. Now, she’s on the most restrictive low carb, high protein diet ever. The couple must learn to deal with her new diet and to hide it from the nosy neighbors. Oh, the plans they hatch to provide her with sustenance. To satisfy all her cravings, they opt to only kill people who are truly awful. It only gets tougher when they find many of the drug dealers/murderers/and arms dealers they target turn out to be not as despicable as they’ve been lead to believe.

I first started watching on the recommendation of a friend. And I’m glad it did. In most episodes, their teenage daughter, Abby, is more mature than they are. This character is played brilliantly by Liv Hewson. Add in the bumbling cop, the affair-indulging neighbor, and a smarty-pants potential love interest for Abby, and I consider this a true winner. Oh, and did I mention the show stars Timothy Olyphant? Here’s a little treat, I mean clip of him talking about the show (and yeah, Drew is in there as well).

I hope you’ll give it a try. It’s very entertaining.

Just What Will Eclectic Tastes Get You?

Just What Will Eclectic Tastes Get You?

To say my viewing choices are eclectic might be an understatement. My tastes are all over the place. On any given day, I might tune into a PBS Masterpiece show, like Poldark (currently one of my favorites). Of course, that comes on Sunday nights, which is the same night as my other favorite, The Walking Dead.

Vastly different, right? Except both shows deal with survival in one form or the other.

In Poldark, the characters are fighting for their lifestyle, to become successful in the copper mines that are their legacies.

In The Walking Dead, they are simply fighting for their lives. But both shows pit the characters against more powerful enemies.

Anyway you look at it, survival is the key.

And the same holds true for my other favorite obsession; any and all of the franchises of Bravo TV’s Real Housewives. However, on those programs, survival isn’t always a given!

Why Wear Black?

Why Wear Black?

As Veronica Forand, I wear black. Lots of it. At first, it was a practical. Like the Garanimals of our childhood, wearing all black means almost everything matches. There’s comfort in knowing I won’t be rummaging for hours looking for something that matches the cool green pants that languish in my closet without a coordinating top.

Black screams also screams attitude and lately, I’ve felt anything but confident. Clothes can affect how I see myself. I need to be strong right now for my family, for my clients, and for myself. Dressing to kick ass, helps me take on any challenge I’m confronted with.

Tom Hiddleston. Just because.

In another color, she’s got a softer side.

There are days I’ll wear bright blue and white and that suits me fine, but when I need to engage some of my power, wearing anything black helps out.

The Truth Is Still Out There

The Truth Is Still Out There

by Xio Axelrod

If you need anything from me during the 4th weekend in January, I suggest you let me know now. That way, I can get it to you ahead of time. On Sunday, the 24th of that month, I will be completely unavailable – inaccessible, unreachable – between the hours of 7 and 10 P.M. Certainly that whole weekend, and the week leading up to it. Okay, who am I kidding? It’ll be hard to get me to focus for about six weeks. Why? The X-Files are coming back.

Guys! GUYS! I’m grinning too!
