The Truth Is Still Out There

The Truth Is Still Out There

by Xio Axelrod

If you need anything from me during the 4th weekend in January, I suggest you let me know now. That way, I can get it to you ahead of time. On Sunday, the 24th of that month, I will be completely unavailable – inaccessible, unreachable – between the hours of 7 and 10 P.M. Certainly that whole weekend, and the week leading up to it. Okay, who am I kidding? It’ll be hard to get me to focus for about six weeks. Why? The X-Files are coming back.

Guys! GUYS! I’m grinning too!

You’re not screaming, so I can only surmise that you didn’t understand what I just said.

The X-Files. Are. Back.

And, no, it won’t resemble anything like the post-Mulder mess we got towards the end of the show’s first run. That’s unfair, I know, because the back-up cast did an admirable job with what they were given. And maybe with more time, they would have come into their own. But no matter how many cameos Scully made, it just didn’t work. It was kind of like following a stellar meal of grass-fed filet mignon, roasted potatoes with truffle oil, and haricot vert, with last year’s fruit cake for dessert. Just…no. (But hey, if that’s what you’re into, do you.)

I have a ridiculous girl-crush on Gillian Anderson. Seriously, look at her. And David Duchovny is to me what Bruce Willis is for many others: fatally sarcastic, sexier than he should be, and always welcome on my TV screen. Especially when he’s cracking sunflowers seeds.

There have been tons of reboots and remakes of late. When I first heard about TXF returning, I admit it. I cringed. But if the teasers, promos, and early reviews are any indication, what Chris Carter is giving us is pure gold. Fox is so excited about the early reactions that they’re thinking of extending the six-episode run into something else. Maybe it will go the route of Luther, Sherlock and other shows that pop up with a short, brilliant series every once in a while. My fingers, toes, and eyes are csroesed. (I had to undo that last one, or writing would be a task.)

Have you seen the trailer? No? Well, sit back and enjoy. It’s SO. GOOD.

So, yeah…my fangirl flag is freakishly flying and I don’t give a flying fig. I’m happier than the Cigarette Smoking Man in a Marlboro factory. Are you a Believer? The truth is out there.

  1. O M Freaking G. The feels the total feels when I heard that music again. I will also be MIA during that time. And we owe each other an Angel marathon, don’t we?

  2. This is cool. And just think of all the other doors this might open…(Firefly please.)

  3. Has it started yet? I loved X-Files…though the last two seasons kind of lost me, I still watched. And I always loved Gillian and David together! 🙂

  4. I need a few extra hours in the day so I can watch all of these shows you guys talk about. I’m not even sure I know how to operate the bloody television anymore.
